Xibei (Sonia) Jia (b.2000) is a Chinese artist born in Odessa, Ukraine. Jia completed her undergraduate degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and holds an MA from the Royal College of Art, London, 2023.
Her work focuses on the complexities of human life, often using her work as a tool for meditation to heal her childhood trauma. She uses her memories to reconstruct paintings, which focus on philosophy, sociology and hedonism, amongst many others themes. Each work is used to rationalise the complexities of day to day life, which explore life and death. In many of her works she creates realms were the non-living are reborn, and are given a platform to share emotion and have a sense of continuity.
