Chengxuan Xie

Chengxuan Xie (b.1997) is from Guangdong, China. Xie graduated from the Fine Arts Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020 and holds an MA from Royal College of Art undertaking an MA in painting 2023.

His style combines Renaissance’s figurative delineation with Chinese literati notion of abbreviated presence. Xie’s paintings experiment with textures and combinations of different mediums. The intention is to experience the compelling effect of opposite materials put beside each other. During each piece he pays attention to the nuance of the painting resisting each texture, thereby creating dialogues between the materials. The paintings act as a tool to process and express his reactions to his environment and people outside of the studio. His Xie’s work then are then documentations of the self-reflection of these experiences. Xie held his solo exhibition A Man, A Man and A Man at Grotto SKW, Hong Kong in 2021. In 2022 he exhibited at Art Basel Hong Kong 2022 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
